There's a reason the Head 94cm has always topped Skiboards Superstore's best seller list every season since they first came out. The all new Salamander 94 cm skiboards for the 2012/13 season are high performance skiboards (short shaped skis or snowblades) complete with the convenience of step-in release bindings and in one well thought out package! These 94cm skiboards provide the perfect combination of control and performance, being equally at home whether cruising the groomed runs, jamming through the moguls or taking on the black diamond advanced terrain. The wider-body construction coupled with a deep parabolic side cut makes carving, whether an adult beginner or seasoned snow rider, almost effortless. The new Salamander comes with factory mounted Tyrolia Sympro 100 bindings that adjust without tools to your ski boots. Fits sizes 5 to 14 US (263-391 mm). DIN setting 3-10. The graphite race base, coupled with solid tip-to-tail wood core construction and "snake-skin" protective top sheet make these one of the most versatile and longest lasting skiboards on the market. These are amazingly stable and smooth to ride. The Salamander features asymmetrical twin tips for ease of forward as well as backward riding. These carve it up with the stability you would normally expect in skis much longer. Front and rear tip protectors protect your tips from unexpected knocks and dings. If you're still lingering on the sidelines of trying skiboards or snowblades, these are more fun and easier than skis, so stop waiting and start riding! Recommended for: ? Beginners wanting to learn to ride or perfect their snow riding skills. With the Salamander 94 cm snowblades, fun and quick success are already pre-programmed. ? 5Only Snowblade for Large BootsNov 22, 2009
By Larry
These are a great product. I purchased them after looking around on-and-off for 5 years for snowblades. These were the only ones that fit my boots (33.5cm - I wear a size 17 sneaker). If you've ever used a cheaply made snowblade, you will immediately notice the benefits of these high quality skis. For example some cheap models refuse to maintain a straight line (the skis wobble back and forth smacking into each other) or, in a turn, the ski flexes and straightens rapidly causing it to chatter across the slope, but that will not happen with these. They will allow you to lean into a wide carving turn and hold onto it long enough to reach out with your uphill hand and grab a handful of snow. The step-in bindings are great when getting on/off of a gondola or at the beginning/end of a day. Other than that, you won't notice that you have a step-in binding because you can adjust the tension plenty high so that they won't detach in thick powder or icy moguls. Its just my impression, but these bindings feel like they grab my boot almost as tight as my ~$400 race binding that I have on my long skis. These are great fun in every condition from corduroy groomed runs all the way to deep powder when skiing in the woods. You'll especially appreciate the maneuverability in and out of the trees or bumps.

5These are great!Feb 16, 2008

While not a replacement for skis, snowblades such as these offer a ridiculously enormous amount of control and won't leave you encumbered by having to tote along a set of poles. It is also a big convenience now that I can just throw these into the trunk and head up to the slopes.

I like the fact that these have releasable bindings. I don't think of them as so much a safety feature as I do a big convenience. Putting on the walk-in bindings (the non-releasable ones) can be a bit of a pain compared to this. These are just pop and go. I couldn't be happier.

As for the bindings as being a safety feature, I would imagine that if someone was just learning to ski, this would be a great alternative to simple short skis. In which case, the bindings would make for a big plus.

5Love 'Em!Apr 19, 2009

I'm not a good skier but love to be up there on the slopes. Liked everything about skiing but the going down the mountain part. Even with short (120 cm) skis, just could not get them to do what I wanted. These 94 cm blades were just what I needed -- they give me TOTAL CONTROL and are super-easy to maneuver with. I'm a much better skier now and thinking of going back to slightly longer skis next year (after two years on these). The only drawback is speed: the blades don't go as fast as longer skis, and when you DO go fast, you don't have as much control with the blades as you do with longer skis. If you know someone who is hesitant on skis, looking for control -- give these a try. They're a real confidence builder. Added bonus -- if you're flying, you can slip them into a folding chair bag or even a 40" duffle (the Amaro is nice) and don't have to pay extra for ski transport.

5Head short skiisFeb 15, 2009
By Laurie Stover "Ski Bunny"
This are the best. They are fast, fun, and totally convenient with the releasable binding. I have used Solomon non-releasable for 4 years now and they cannot compare to these new Head skiis. I will not ski on anything else. They are great!

5amazing product...never going back to long skisNov 07, 2012
By Headless
I got a pair of these at the end of the 2011 ski season...and there's no going back.

Last year, I used these in the Tahoe region and had a blast. My 'normal' skis are Solomon Tornadoes...a great ski in its own right, but nothing compared to the Salamanders. I had both with me...I never even put on the Tornadoes...and likely never will again.

I'm a bigger, muscular guy...advanced intermediate level. Greens, blues, double blues, no problem...black slopes...look out as moguls can do me in. Not anymore. With the Salamanders, I was able to handle bumpy black slopes without a problem. Reason: easier turns and far more control on the slopes. The bindings are excellent too...you're not giving up anything with these blades.

When you're skiing moguls, these guys are agile, light, and easy to maneuver...what a difference.

As far as powder, well, everyone says that the snowblades are no good. I disagree... One day at Kirkwood, we had about 2 feet of powder...as long as I was on a blue slope (with some downhill to it), these cruised just fine. No issues. You also do not lose any speed...I can keep just about the same speed as I can with my Tornadoes...but certainly with more control.

I really do not see any downside with these particular snowblades. I recommend them to everyone. It was amazing how many people were asking me about them. Many spouses of skiers I met at the lodges said things like 'I think I'd give these a try. I've always been afraid to ski'. If you've never skiied before, don't waste your time with long skis...get these. I'm never going back as there's no reason to. These are tons of fun, easier to ski with, and are safer...easier to travel with as well!

Enjoy! Highly recommended.
